Multi-media installation.
Continuous run.

Heliophilia is a site-specific installation that encompasses a diverse range of multimedia elements, including projection mapping, single-channel videos, and sculptures. Set within the unique backdrop of an old vault that was once part of the first commercial bank established during the Japanese occupation, the exhibition space holds deep historical significance, adding layers of meaning to the immersive experience.

At the heart of Heliophilia is an exploration of our complex relationship with capital in its various forms, from the traditional gold standard to fiat money and the ever-evolving realm of cryptocurrency. This exploration is framed through the metaphor of plants’ relationship to light, which also has increasingly taken on artificial modalities in the modern world.

Through the interplay of projection mapping, videos, and sculptures, Heliophilia prompts viewers to contemplate the intricacies of our interactions with different forms of capital and their impact on our lives and society. The juxtaposition of the historic vault and the contemporary digital elements in the installation serves to highlight the evolving nature of capital and its pervasive influence in our modern world.

Heliophilia is a reflection on the ways in which our understanding and relationship with capital have transformed over time, as well as the artificiality that has become inherent in our contemporary financial systems. It invites viewers to engage in an exploration of the complexities and nuances of capital, history, and technology, prompting deeper reflection on our relationship with these systems and their impact on our lives.
